I really was planning on making a post-birthday post detailing ALL THE LOVELY HAPPENINGS that occurred and all the exciting things that went down. Being that that would be published 2 weeks later? I resigned that post idea. There’s an even greater present that someone gave me, and I’m not even sure if he knows it either.
So aside from all the nerd ramblings, it should be noted that I’m also a huge gamer of the MMO variety. I really started getting into them around 2009 with my first MMO, World of Warcraft. Like all things I branched away from that in the years to follow, and found myself gleefully happy in the current and only MMO I exclusively play, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. Most folks who play with me know me as the happy-go-lucky and steadfast Miqo’te White Mage, Alisha Rue, BUT? There’s a side of me I’ve been digging deeper into. And with that I’ve developed yet another online persona in Eorzea.
If you’re familiar with XIV’s sister IP, Final Fantasy XI, then you’ll know the game was very popular for many years and folks from all over the world banded together to defeat the evil of Vana’diel and in the process become a hero of heroes. In this game folks had the option to create their in-game avatar as a heroic Hume, a lithe Elvaan, an adorable compact Tarutaru, an exotic Female Mithra or a stoic Male Galka. Many of the friends and folks I play with in XIV now redesigned their characters to reflect their former avatar from XI. Now being that I never played XI, this entire canon universe was foreign to me. In many respects, the same can also be said for the current Female Roegadyn, an alternate version of the powerful Galka of XI.
Now I wasn’t aware that they too were introduced in the new XIV until my handsome Samo-chan informed me of this. This led us to a myriad of discussions and tales about his former XI character, Ralken and his current Sea Wolf Reogadyn, Sam Odean. Hearing his tales made me feel good inside; I know it’s unintentional, but hearing folks recant tales of past memories and challenges they overcame in XI lead me to feel… as if I was missing something. I felt like I missed out on a golden era of sorts. So… with Female “Girlkas” making their debut into the newest FFMMO makes me feel as if we’re both starting fresh. We’re both experiencing a new canon universe and story together. I love my main and what I’ve accomplished with her, but my FemRoe? I think she’s a digital imprint of me, and a memory that’ll last me a lifetime.
In addition? This is the first time I’ve actually ever actively “RP-ed” in an MMO. This is something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember. So my darling Vis Selenity (yeah that pasty white Sea Wolf up there) is a memorable first in many ways, thanks to Samo-chan.
What about you? Do you play any MMOs? Have you developed an MMO character into an online persona of yourself? Tell me all about it on the comments below! I’d love to hear it! 🙂
