Introducing 30 Days of ARPil!

Happy Monday folks!

From the great successes of Blaugust and IntPiPoMo, I’ve got my creative juices going with an urge to do some creative writing again. As I discussed in an earlier post back in February I want to make daily posting a regular practice in my life. For me writing serves as both a great creative outlet as well as a method to get my thoughts sorted and properly conveyed without letting it bottle up inside me. I’ve had the HMIC on the noggin a whole bunch lately, so I want to revisit an original character roleplaying series I originally stumbled upon on Tumblr.

It circulated quite a bit through dear friends in the FFXIV Tumblr community and I really wanted to flesh out a creative and thought provoking backstory or my main, Alisha Rue. Titled “30 Days of Character Development” this is what it entailed: Each day for 30 days, a question would be posted and you would answer the question either as the voice of the writer, or as the character yourself.

I sadly never finished the series due to real life getting in the way, but I’d like to continue where I left off and finally bring life to Rue and all facets of her, and I’d like to invite friends and readers of the blog to join me if interested. There’s no rules per se, but I wanted to give you all my tentative plan for this series:

  1. The writing series will begin April 1. The goal is to run a question a day for the 30 days.
  2. As I choose to write about my original character, Rue, from Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn I wholeheartedly encourage anyone interested in doing this to write about ANY original character they’ve created or would like to develop more on. It could be from World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Blade and Soul, or even your original character in Fire Emblem Fates series, Digimon , Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, an otome you enjoy or an original story you’ve worked on. The possibilities are endless!
  3. Because I have an entire folder of screenshots dedicated to XIV alone, I plan on including 1-2 screenshots with each post. I encourage others to do so, but it’s not required.
  4. If you’d like to partake in this monthly series, let me know! If I gather enough interest from folks, I’ll work on getting together a Google Docs spreadsheet that can be shared with all folks involved in the project. All I’d ask is you shoot me your name / gamertag, the name of your OC character, an email address to invite you into the Google Docs spreadsheet, and the URL of where you plan on posting your questions.

I wish I had a designing bone in my body, because I’d love to award folks with a badge they can post on their site / blog / Tumblr following the event, but maybe next year I can work on that. 🙂

That’s all folks! If you’d like to join be sure to let me know in the comments or on Twitter! If this ramps up interest I’ll get straight to work on the spreadsheet this week! ^_^

    1. Yup! If you’ve had an idea in your mind about a character you’d like to bring to life I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to give it a shot. I’m not one for rules and conditions but just want to encourage and motivate anyone that wants to try it out for a fun creative challenge! 😊

  1. This sounds like a lot of fun! I would participate, but writing about my characters isn’t my sort of thing (I tried once with a similar monthly challenge called the ABC challenge, got very frustrated and failed miserably). I hate taking up things and then not being able to go on with it. Also, writing blog posts takes a lot of time and I’m already super proud if I manage to write 3 a week!

However, I would love to join unofficially and do a couple of “catch up” posts in which I answer multiple questions at a time. That would fit better with my blog content and my posting schedule. Are you planning on releasing the questions in advance?

The best of luck with this. I for one am already looking forward to all your pretty character pictures!

    1. Hey Rav! I’ll be posting the questions tonight for everyone who wants to participate. Since everything happened spur of the moment I really encourage everyone to partake in it in a style that best accommodates and suits them. So yes I’ll definitely have the questions posted today when I return home and everyone can take part however they see fit. 😊

  2. I thought I had left roleplaying behind me but as I read the questions in your other post it made me rethink and revise the background of my main character in Everquest 2. So I guess I will be participating too. 🙂

      1. Ops! I knew I was forgetting something. It will be on shardsofimagination.com

The character name is Rakuno, he is my ratonga monk in Everquest 2. 🙂

And yes, I am lazy with names nowadays. >_<
